Dogs only

Childrens Hospital in Chicago said they have a contract Rainbow Animals which is a dog only program. I contacted them and they said, they only accept dogs into their program. The volunteer program for Advocate Hospitals responded, they said I had to contact the hosptials individually to see, she knew that a few of the hospitals have pet visitors but that it is up to each hospital. I contacted them but have not heard back yet. It seems like my wish to visit sick children is coming to an end. I need to think of something else I can do to help out. Does anyone out there have any ideas for me?

Hello Harry, it's very nice to meet you. I think it's a wonderful idea for you to visit those who are unwell. There are a couple of cats on the Cat Blogosphere who do this sort of work - maybe they could give you some ideas on who to approach? This is one of them:-

I think Chase is registered to do visiting too, her Mum might have some ideas to help you out too - this is Chase's blog -

Hope that helps and I hope you manage to stay warm in that windy city!

Hi Harry! It is very nice to meet you! I was also going to suggest you visit Figaro who does therapy visits to nursing homes and also visits libraries, but I see Whicky already left the links. I think Figaro will be moving to Chicago soon!

I am a Devon Rex cat and I had a sister named Pixie. She had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and she did well for many years on her medications (atenolol, enalapril, lasix, plavix).

Hi Harry
We thought your offer to visit with the children who are ill was a great one. We do know of other cat who do visits, but I see But Whicky and Daisy have mentioned them. Don't give up because we are sure that there is a place out there that accepts cats....it was furry nice to meet you.

Hello Harry Spotter. Welcome to cat blogosphere. I cannot help you in your quest, unless you wish to pretend you hairless mexican dog, then you can go to hospital.

How about developing your own cat program rather than attaching to a dog program. But first, i'd find out what the objection to cats is.
Maybe it's the toxoplasmosis thing in surgical areas or areas where kids have compromised immune systems. (But you cannot imagine the dirty stuff people bring into the hospital when they visit. We had a man that came into our CCU with horse poopie on his boot.) Then I'd set up an appointment with whoever oversees the program for the hospital. I think it would be so cool if you carried the kitty next to the child as they were taken down for diagnostics.

It's nice to meet you Harry. I have a heart problem too and I take atenolol twice a day. I am also 3 and feel good with no symptoms. I am sorry about your sister, Lady Harley. My brother Riley recently passed away so I am lonely too. My parents are talking about getting me a kitten. Maybe a kitten would help you stay warm in winter? You are very brave to want to visit the hospital. I do not like to leave my house.

Maybe there are smaller clinics you can volunteer at until the big hospital has a policy change.

Would you mind sharing the name of your breeder with us? I've always wanted a sphynx and am looking for recommendations.

We're sorry this didn't work out for you but we send purrs and tail wags that you will soon find something where you will be the perfect fit. Cats are therapeutic too.

Hello Harry, good to meet you. We live outside Milwaukee so we're almost neighbors! Welcome to our cat blogging community.

Have you checked with Senior Centers or the VA hospitals to see if they would accept a therapy cat?

Stop over and see us some time.
