Fiona Thanks You!

Fiona wants to thank everyone for all hte support, purrs, prayers, head butts, paws crossed, financial donations, auction donations, items donated for the auction and now the Etsy auction. She feel very blessed and loved by so many people the world over. We mean the world over. Our family is blessed as well and we could not hav gotten to this point with out all of you.

Fiona is doing very well this morning. She is eating soft foods today, she loves her cans of stinky goodness and wolfs it down like there is no tomorrow. Poor Spot, if he doesn't get there first he is out of luck. She takes her food very seriously. Don't mess with her while she is eating.

We have decided for now to see what happens in the next 2 months. Let's give the meds and oral rinses a try and go from there. When we go for her check-up in 2 weeks I will ask them for a dental specialist referral. We have read up on her conditon and it's not pretty, it's sad what will eventually happen but at lest we know that there is some hope and if her teeth have to be pulled she will fine.

Taking a step back from this and what has transpired with Fiona and Harry Spotter.  I don't think the breeder purposely gave us a sick cat. I think it is more a series of unfortunate events. To be honest, I met her when we picked Fiona up, she seems like a lovely person who cares about all of her cats and other animals.  She does a lot of good for those in her community.  However, I think the breeder needs a new Vet. She went on the advice of her vet that Fiona was well and that her dental was good. The Vet obviously did not do a thourough dental exam or they would have found the Plasma Cell Stomatitis on her lower and upper gums. The disease is at the moderate stage, but being so young and it being at the moderate stage is not good, it's not a good prognosis for her dental future. The Vet would have found it had they checked and done a complete dental. How can you have a contract about giving/getting a healthy cat when your Vet is no good?

As for Spot, it happens. His heart condition cannot be diagnosed until 6 months of age, and that's when it was discovered. She offed us another kitten. She tried to honor her contract and we turned it down. We saw Shrek and thought, he would be a cute brother for Spot. Then he died unexpectedly and we were offered Fiona. She had her spayed and  all her shots done where she lives. It's cheaper there and she did save us a lot of money by having all that done where she lives. We are grateful.

But now have 2 cats with degenerative health conditions. It is what it is. It's fact.   Harry Spotter could not have been diagnosed that early. That in no way is her fault or the fault of the Vet.  Fiona on the other hand could have been had the Vet done a complete exam. I guess this is a lesson learned for everyone. If you buy a kitten from a breeder, get it in writing on the contract that they have been checked for certain dental diseases and not a general check mark that the dental is good. For the breeder, they need a good vet to make sure that they check for everything, do a complete exam and not a general look see and quick check mark that all is well. The Breeder has to be able to depend on their vet and if they can't depend on their vet to do a thourough check up and make an appropriate diagnosis then they need a new vet. I think the breeder needs a new vet.

I have said all that I want to say about the Breeder and the Vet. There is nothing more to say.  Like I said, it is what it is, and fact is fact, you can't force someone to do the right thing, and now it's time to move on and make sure that Fiona get the proper dental treatment.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart..you have been a blessing to my family and to Fiona and Harry Spotter.

I bet it feels better to vent this all out about the breeder. I admire your outlook on the situation as I would not be so gracious most likely, but like you said, "it is what it is" and you have to move on. Please let us know how Fiona does over these next two months and I hope poor Spot gets some wet food here and there! haha!

We agree the breeder needs a new vet, sometimes they try to pack as many appointments in as they can and in the process do a hurried job. Well, it is what it is as yoo said and all you can do is go forward from here and do the best you can for Spot and Fiona. If you get her used to it now brushing teeth isn't that bad. Sadie actually enjoys it and will try to grab the brush and do her own teeth! Speedy just sits and lets me do it. Zippy is a little bit of a wrestling match but she always gives in.

It sounds like you have taken a big, deep breath and let it all out and can now see the wood amongst the trees. We are glad you have got to this point but we do understand your anger. Our animals are part of our emotional selves, it takes it's toll on humans too when they are so poorly. You have been through a very rough time but we think you have made a good decision, to give the management regime a go first and seek specialist advice. The breeder is what the breeder is, you are right, but she is still unethical for not taking responsibility for the health of Fiona, after all it was she who hired the vet who gave a shoddy health assessment. Also, a good breeder should be competent to do a basic mouth exam to check for inflamatory mouth problems long before Fiona's mouth became so badly affected. PC Stomatitis isn't exactly subtle when it happens.

We're very happy that Fiona is eating well and improving. That's definately a sign she feels better. We hope little Harry improves too and gets over this bout of viral infection. I think Teri mentioned about L-Lysine to help feline immune systems.

We send you rumbly purrs and love and also some good luck and happiness for the New Year.

We are so happy that Fiona is feeling well enough to wolf down her food! That's a very good sign. Sad about her condition, though -- but I hope she has a number of good years ahead of her.

It's good that you came to terms with your feelings about the Breeder because nothing can really help at this stage. As you say -- it is, what it is.

Bless you for taking such good care of these poor little animals would likely wouldn't survive without you.

Yes, our mom believes that all things happen for a reason. But sometimes we just need to vent. We will continue to purr for Fiona and Spot. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

We do hope you didn't have to pay for Fiona's spay and shots...we think those should have been done before you got her.

But as you said...you must go on. We will continue purrs for Fiona and Spot and we will h ope that the breeder gets a new vet so that no other kitties or their humans have to go thru this.

Happy New Year. I hope it all works out for the best.

It is such a horrible situation and you are doing your best to come to terms with it all. We agree that a new and better vet is in order.

We are purring that Fiona heals well and makes a speedy recovery.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. My mummy has been reading about all of the horrible things that you have been going through.
She used to have a Sphynx kitten called Mouse - sadly he was found to have a heart murmer when he was 5 months old and he passed away suddenly when he was only 2.
The breeders are at fault. There are so many Sphynx cats out there with heart problems that are being knowingly bred. Mummy was looking for a sphynx kitten before I chose her but she says that all of the ones that she went to see had potential problems.
A good and honest breeder should have their breeding cats checked and certified as being free from HCM before they go on to have kittens. It just isnt fair on these very poorly babies or the families that love them.
We would love to feature you on TotallyKitty - mummy and me both think that you are really beautiful.
Lots of love
Cheryl. xx

We are hoping the New Year brings better health and luck to your kitties and you. It sounds like you have let go of the breeder situation and that is good. Bless you for caring for Spot and Fiona in spite of all their problems. Perhaps you were meant to be their family.

I am so sorry about what has transpired with you and your kitties. It is so sad and a shame. Milo had an enlarged heart which caused a stage 4 heart murmur. You could feel it very clearly through his chest. My vet said that the vets who neutured him would have surely felt if they were paying attention or maybe if they even cared. It's a shame and the worst thing that can happen to a pet owner! I'll keep you all in my prayers and hope that your story turns out better then mine did.
